The Ukrainian Navy is urging the mobilization of all available resources, including support from international organizations, to determine the fate of four sailors from the "Stanislav" boat that sank near Zmiinyi Island due to an enemy missile. For 39 months, the relatives of the missing sailors have been appealing to the public for assistance.
As reported by the Ukrainian Navy on Facebook, special attention needs to be given to those who bravely defended Zmiinyi Island on May 7, 2022 - a strategically important outpost in the Black Sea. During the battle, the boat was struck by an enemy missile, and while some crew members were rescued, the fate of four military sailors remains unknown.
These sailors are Oleksandr Sukhorukov, Volodymyr Liashko, Serhii Tukmachov, and Vladyslav Kostiuk - their names have been published along with their photographs. The families are still hopeful for their return, but this requires international intervention.
"Awareness. Pressure. Influence from international organizations and partners. We must utilize all possible means to bring our boys home," stated the Navy.
For the return of the sailors to happen, the aggressor state must confirm the status of all prisoners. The Navy calls on the public and the international community to increase pressure on Russia to clarify the fate of the missing military personnel.
In June, a farewell ceremony was held in Odesa for senior sailor Andrii Sitiavin, who died on the same day near Zmiinyi Island during a Russian missile strike on the "Stanislav" boat. The sailor's body was recovered only in 2024 after a DNA test was conducted.
The "Stanislav" boat was on a combat mission to liberate Zmiinyi and came under enemy missile attack. The vessel sank, and five crew members, including Sitiavin, went missing.
