Simultaneously with the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv, the Ukrainian Women's Conference titled «The Women's Movement Acts in All Women» is taking place in Odesa, dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the women's movement in Ukraine.
The mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, welcomed the attendees, highlighting the significant role of modern women in military, political, and social life. He also emphasized the importance of women in preserving the traditions and culture of our city and thanked them for their contributions.
Sabine Fraser Gunes, the representative of UN Women Ukraine, spoke about the support for the movement from the United Nations and the desire to develop cooperation:
"We know that women in Ukraine are free in their actions. For instance, last year, women created every second new business in Ukraine. Women are taking on incredible roles, filling in for men who are fighting at the front. We also see about 60 thousand women serving in security and defense forces."
The event brought together historians, activists, military personnel, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender specialists.
Key topics of the conference include the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odesa, challenges and achievements of women in modern society, as well as leadership and rebuilding Ukraine after the war.
