The public organization «Decolonization. Ukraine» has released new data regarding the streets that need renaming in Ukraine as part of the decommunization process. In the Odesa region, 228 streets have been identified for renaming.
The Odesa region ranks fifth among Ukrainian regions for the number of streets that require renaming, while the Zaporizhzhia region leads with 1001 streets needing decolonization.
«This list is not exhaustive, as there may be streets named after local communist figures that few people are aware of», – representatives of the organization stated, emphasizing that the map will be periodically updated.
It is also noted that in some regions, such as Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv, activists believe the renaming process is complete.
The YouTube channel «Odesa Life» has launched a new video series titled «Streets of Odesa: Then and Now», which highlights the individuals after whom the streets of Odesa and its region are named.
Previously, the project «Decolonization. Ukraine» published a map of monuments and plaques dedicated to Pushkin that have not yet been dismantled. According to their estimates, the highest number is located in Odesa. Additionally, there has been a proposal to rename Mark Twain Park in Odesa.
