Athletes from Odesa secured five medals at the European Karate Championship, which took place from February 6 to 8 in Limassol, Cyprus.
Around 1200 participants from 40 European countries took part in the competition.
The athletes from Odesa's youth sports schools and the All-Ukrainian Karate Federation showed impressive results.
Maxim Vechanov from KDYUSH № 15 became the European champion, marking his third medal at the youth European Championships (previously winning gold in 2025 and silver in 2024 among cadets).
Hanna Maistreko also claimed a silver medal at the championship.
Other silver medalists include Vladislav Rudenko (KDYUSH № 16), Serhii Stankov (SK 'Legion'), and Ulyana Baranova (SK 'Okinawa'). This is their second recognition. In 2024, Serhii won gold among cadets, while Ulyana and Vladislav took bronze among juniors in 2025.
After the European Championship, Maxim Vechanov and Ulyana Baranova headed to Fujairah (UAE) to participate in the World Karate League.
The athletes were trained by coaches: Volodymyr Zaretskyi, Oleksii Konovalov, and instructors: Volodymyr Holoveshko, Dmytro Negaturov, Denys Sustretov, Orkhan Yusifov, and Ruslan Khomutenko.
