The director of a municipal enterprise responsible for waste management has been accused of negligence that led to multiple instances of waste ignition and major fires. Firefighters took over a week to extinguish the flames. The accused could face up to 5 years in prison, according to police reports.
Investigators found that the official failed to comply with safety regulations regarding the landfill, resulting in dangerous situations. Specifically, the director did not implement measures for the extraction and disposal of harmful biogas generated from waste decomposition.
This negligence led to severe consequences, including the spread of fire over a large area. Expert assessments indicate that the environmental damage from air pollution exceeded 4.75 million UAH.
"The investigators gathered sufficient evidence to bring charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: negligence and pollution of the atmosphere with hazardous substances that pose a threat to human life and the environment," stated the police chief.
«The accused faces up to five years of imprisonment and a ban from holding certain positions for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation has concluded, and the indictment has been sent to court,» added the police representative.
