In Odessa, efforts are underway to establish a Memorial honoring the fallen soldiers.
A meeting at the city hall led by Mayor Gennady Trukhanov focused on commemorating the memory of the fallen Heroes.
Architect David Pishchev presented the concept for the new Memorial, developed in close collaboration with the families of military personnel.
During a previous meeting, models of headstones were also showcased.
A key issue discussed was determining the site for the Memorial, which will enable precise planning. The mayor noted that back in 2014, there was a shortage of burial sites in Odessa. To expand the cemetery, the city purchased land from private owners that was once part of an airport.
Director of the City Council's Legal Department, Inna Popovska, clarified that this is a single property complex currently under the management of KP «City Capital Construction» and is being considered as the location for the Memorial.
The mayor instructed the land and cadastral bureau to conduct aerial photography of the site for further planning and project development.
According to David Pishchev's proposal, the Memorial will include:
- standardized military burial sectors;
- a multifunction building for farewell ceremonies and memorial events;
- a park area with elements allowing for creative expressions of grief and sharing of memories.
Work on analyzing proposals and sourcing resources for the project continues. The establishment of the Memorial will be a significant step in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
