The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new resolution regarding the launch of an experimental project — the Registry of the Museum Fund of Ukraine. This innovative digital system will consolidate information about all museum items in the country, ensuring their accounting, preservation, and protection. This document will make processes more transparent and manageable.
«Every museum will have its own cabinet and free access to a unified interface. The digital registry will allow for monitoring, inventorying, and controlling the movement of museum treasures both in Ukraine and abroad. It will provide access to data about museum collections and information regarding the recovery of stolen or lost exhibits. The registry will serve as a foundation for implementing a number of other projects, including evacuation efforts. This is a critical project for preserving our cultural heritage», — emphasized the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.
The resolution is necessary for organizing the processes related to the collection, storage, protection, and processing of information about museum items and collections belonging to the state part of the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
The registry will provide the ability to monitor, inventory, and control the movement of museum treasures, as well as tools for accessing information regarding the search and recovery of stolen or lost exhibits. In addition, the system will offer convenient and secure access to data about museum collections.
The registry will allow:
- to document each museum item in digital form;
- to control the movement of exhibits both in Ukraine and abroad;
- to respond quickly in cases of disappearance or theft of cultural treasures;
- to create a database for the return of lost museum items;
- to generate analytics on the state of museum collections.
The experimental project will last for up to two years. During this time, technical solutions will be tested, the interaction procedure of the Registry with other electronic systems will be established, and the circle of users will be defined.
The creation of the Registry is an important step towards preserving the Museum Fund of Ukraine and enhancing the role of museums and reserves in shaping contemporary Ukrainian culture.
