A significant meeting took place in Ukraine between the Ministry of Development and the International Maritime Organization aimed at enhancing the security of Ukrainian ports. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba discussed key aspects of maritime safety collaboration in the Black and Azov Seas with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.

This visit marks Dominguez's first trip to Ukraine.

Also present at the meeting were ministry representatives, including First Deputy Minister Alona Shkrum.

Kuleba emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to ensure maritime transport safety and environmental protection. He noted that since the launch of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, 109 million tons of cargo have been processed, 70 million tons of which are grain, highlighting Ukraine's critical role in the global food supply chain.

Kuleba also stressed the need to exert pressure on the Russian tanker fleet, which continues to transport oil, financing terrorism.

He expressed gratitude to the IMO for its support of Ukraine during these challenging times and hoped for continued collaboration to ensure safe navigation.

Alona Shkrum presented data on losses in the maritime sector, particularly regarding the destruction of port infrastructure and civilian vessel impacts.

The Secretary-General of the IMO assured readiness for active cooperation and assistance to Ukraine.

The parties agreed to continue collaboration under the Maritime Transport Recovery Plan developed jointly with Estonia.

Additionally, the IMO continues to make decisions supporting Ukraine, including the suspension of Russia's membership in the organization.
