Last night, a Russian drone struck the home of Odessa Zoo director Igor Biljakov. Fortunately, he was unharmed, but the building was completely destroyed.
This was reported on the official page of the KU "Odessa Zoo".
Impact on Biljakov's Home
The drone attack resulted in the destruction of Igor Biljakov's house, and his mobile phone was rendered useless. As a result, the zoo director is currently unreachable.
"Fortunately, the zoo director is safe, but his phone was destroyed, so he cannot respond to calls at this time. We ask for understanding in this situation," stated the zoo staff.
Additionally, due to the attack, Igor Biljakov's pets are in danger — some of them went missing during the explosion. A search is underway, and the zoo is requesting information from anyone who may have seen the lost animals.
Attack on May 16
During the night, the enemy targeted the Odessa and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi regions: private houses, outbuildings, and a garage with three cars were destroyed. Fires broke out at the sites, which were extinguished by firefighters and local volunteers. Two men and a woman sustained shrapnel wounds, blast injuries, fractures, and thermal burns. One of the injured is currently in serious condition in the hospital.
It is worth noting that recently we reported on a serval at the Odessa Zoo that ended up in the lion enclosure next door. We also discussed the aftermath of the night attack.
