The municipal enterprise «City Roads» consistently carries out maintenance work on stormwater drainage systems to keep them in proper condition.
Experts perform repairs and cleaning of storm drains, grates, catch basins, and specialized hydraulic structures (drainage ditches, buffer ponds) from silt, leaves, debris, and reeds.
The cleaning of the stormwater drainage systems in Odessa is carried out regularly as per the planned schedule throughout the city. During heavy rains, the emergency teams of the «City Roads» additionally work on the streets. The municipal workers clear the grates of catch basins from fallen leaves and other debris that rainwater brings, ensuring free drainage of water from the streets.
In the first nine months of this year, the enterprise's staff performed cleaning operations: 15,369 m of ditches and channels, 3,902 catch basins, 4,997 m of collectors, and 21,479 m of pipe flushing.
Additionally, staff mowed grass on the ditches and channels of hydraulic structures (10,060 m) and cleaned 1,735.6 square meters of the buffer pond.
Stormwater drainage cleaning is performed manually and with the help of heavy equipment from the «City Roads»: excavators with specialized attachments, motor graders, high-pressure hydraulic units based on MAN trucks for flushing pipes, trucks, and other special machinery.
Moreover, the experts at «City Roads» repair catch basins, replace pipes in catch basins, and, if necessary, raise grates to road level and restore inspection chamber covers.
Since the beginning of 2024, the enterprise's workers have installed and replaced grates on 55 catch basins and repaired 26 catch basins with replacement of castings.
During operation, the grates of stormwater catch basins sink, creating potholes on the roadway, which can lead to accidents. The specialists of «City Roads» regularly address this issue.
Since the start of this year, municipal workers have raised 91 sunken grates of catch basins to road level and installed 19 inspection chambers to the level of the roadway. They also repaired 8 inspection chambers with replacement of castings and installed cover slabs on inspection chambers (3 units) and catch basins (11 units).
Furthermore, since the beginning of this year, the enterprise's staff has repaired 41 m of collectors, conducted video inspections of 556 m of collectors, and pumped out 1,039 cubic meters of rainwater from the roadways.
