Last week, medical facilities in Odesa held a Breast Cancer Awareness Day aimed at prevention and early diagnosis for the city's women. This event was organized with the support of the Health Department of the Odesa City Council as part of the nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign.
All interested women were able to undergo free clinical breast examinations and receive consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, or oncologists. Doctors from diagnostic centers also performed mammograms and ultrasounds for women who came without electronic referrals.
As a result of the event, a total of 1822 women received preventive mammology examinations. There were 669 referrals made for mammography and 388 for ultrasound studies, with 170 women referred for additional consultations with mammologists.
On the day of the event, 97 women underwent free mammographic examinations by self-referral. This allowed for the timely detection of 8 cases suspected of breast cancer, and all patients were referred for consultation and further examination at a specialized medical facility.
Remember! Women over 40 should have screening mammograms once a year, even in the absence of complaints or symptoms. Timely diagnosis helps identify precancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages, which can be successfully treated.
Medical facilities in Odesa are equipped with modern mammographs funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established at Consultative-Diagnostic Center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
