The mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, participated in a city conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.

According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is among the top three diseases that lead to disability and death. Early detection of diabetes significantly reduces the risks of complications.

The event brought together specialists, parents, and children with diabetes, whose families receive comprehensive support. The latest developments in diabetes care were also discussed.

«Despite the ongoing war, Odesa continues to enhance the quality of life for people with diabetes and raise awareness about the disease. We are ready to implement modern solutions and technologies to improve the lives of our children, and we promote preventive measures that encourage a healthy lifestyle among the youth,» said the city mayor.
 

In Odesa, over 30,000 adults and children live with diabetes. Among them, nearly 5,000 patients require insulin therapy, including more than 400 children.

- All diabetes patients can access necessary medications through the government program "Affordable Medicines."
- The "Diabetes School" is operational at the Reznik Children's Center.
- Under the city health program, insulin pumps and supplies for children with type 1 diabetes have been purchased.
- Free continuous glucose monitoring systems are provided to children.
- Free awareness campaigns about diabetes prevention and early detection are conducted.
- A project aimed at increasing teachers' awareness of diabetes has been launched.
