Last year, Odesa's medical facilities performed 12,390 endoscopic examinations, during which 240 cases of suspected gastrointestinal cancers were identified.
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, commonly known as gastroscopy, is a procedure that examines the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum using an endoscope. This technique is essential for diagnosing gastritis, ulcers, and both benign and malignant tumors at early stages.
Individuals over the age of 50 are advised to undergo gastroscopy routinely, even in the absence of symptoms. If you are under 50 but your doctor recommends a gastroscopy, you need to obtain a referral to schedule an appointment at a medical facility contracted with the National Health Service of Ukraine for this procedure.
The service is provided on an outpatient basis. However, if a gastroscopy is required during hospitalization, it can also be performed free of charge based on a doctor's referral.
Modern video gastroscopes have been purchased for Odesa's medical institutions using city budget funds. To undergo a gastroscopy free of charge, a referral from your family doctor or treating physician is needed.
You can have a free gastroscopy by appointment at the following addresses:
