In Odesa, discussions are ongoing about the location for a monument to Lesya Ukrainka. Currently, city council members are considering placing it in Cosmonauts Square, which will be named after the poetess.

It is worth mentioning that the decision to install the monument in honor of Lesya Ukrainka was approved by the culture and international relations commission last spring. Suggested locations included Cosmonauts Park, Heroes Avenue (formerly Alexandrovsky), and Shevchenko Park.

Members of the historical and toponymic commission reported to the city council that the site in Shevchenko Park is not suitable for the monument. There is an underground restroom nearby, and a café is currently being constructed above it.

«The location in Shevchenko Park is not ideal. A site near the Lanzheron Arch was proposed. There are both positive and negative aspects. An underground restroom was previously there, which has been purchased, and a café is planned on that site. The proximity of the café to the monument raises questions», – reported a member of the historical and toponymic commission.

Thus, the council members currently plan to install the monument in Cosmonauts Square near the temple of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which will be built on the site of an existing structure.
