The Ukrainian Parliament has recently endorsed a proposal from local residents to change the names of two settlements in the Artsyz community in the Odesa region.
On May 5, a motion titled «On the Renaming of Certain Settlements» was registered in the Parliament, which aims to alter the names of nineteen geographical objects in Ukraine, including two in the Odesa region.
The project indicates that both requests were submitted by the local Artsyz City Council.
The renaming of the village of Holmske was initiated by its residents, who wish to restore the historical name Selioglo. This name was used from the founding of the settlement until it was changed by Soviet authorities in 1946.
As for the settlement of Novokholmske, plans are in place to rename it to Aliyagu. This decision was supported during public hearings, as there used to be a railway station nearby with the same name.
