A dangerous gas explosion occurred in a private residence in the Khadyzhbiye district of Odesa due to the failure of a gas cylinder's seal. The owner of the house was severely injured and rescued from the debris in critical condition.
According to the State Emergency Service (SES), the tragedy happened last night on Oleksiy Kasyachenko Street. The explosion was caused by the depressurization of a gas cylinder, leading to significant structural damage.
The explosion partially destroyed the roof and walls of the house. The shockwave caused serious destruction, trapping the homeowner underneath the rubble.
"The homeowner, born in 1979, suffered severe injuries, with burns covering 70% of his body; rescuers extracted him from the debris and handed him over to medical personnel," the SES reported.
The 45-year-old man sustained critical injuries, with burns affecting 70% of his body, which is extremely life-threatening. Rescuers quickly removed the victim from under the rubble and transferred him to an ambulance team.
To address the aftermath of the explosion, the SES deployed 2 units of specialized equipment and 12 firefighters. The rescue teams worked diligently at the site, clearing debris and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. The victim's condition remains critical due to the extent of his burns, and medical staff are fighting for his life in the hospital.
