The Odesa City Council has decided to rename a street in honor of the legendary football coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi. While closely associated with Kyiv's «Dynamo», his roots in Odesa run deep.

A brief history of his career and contributions to football

Valeriy Lobanovskyi played for Odesa's «Chornomorets» during 1965-1966, appearing in 59 matches and scoring 15 goals. He also earned a higher education from the Odesa Polytechnic Institute.

His achievements in football are recognized worldwide. In 2023, the portal GiveMeSport listed him among the top 15 coaches in football history. Lobanovskyi managed teams such as «Dynamo» (Kyiv), «Dnipro», and national teams of the USSR, Ukraine, Kuwait, and the UAE.

Under his leadership, «Dynamo» won the USSR championship eight times and claimed the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup, defeating «Bayern Munich». After the dissolution of the USSR, «Dynamo» continued to dominate the football scene, winning five consecutive championship titles.
