Odessa is actively pursuing new initiatives to establish barrier-free routes within the framework of a national project. In a meeting on August 20, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a new resolution that sets standards for planning and equipping barrier-free transport and pedestrian routes.
This document streamlines the processes and allows for the expansion of the initiative across the country. Currently, 15 communities are participating in the pilot project by the Ministry of Development. The routes are being created by local authorities in collaboration with architects and community organizations.
The Ministry of Development oversees the coordination of the process. Odessa is among the leaders in implementing these measures.
During an online meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Oleksii Kubel, the progress of the project in Odessa was discussed, particularly the update of barrier-free route signage and the alignment of project documentation for its initial phase.
“In collaboration with the ministry and expert consultants, the city is continuously moving towards implementing modern barrier-free solutions that make Odessa more accessible for everyone,” noted Acting Deputy Mayor Serhii Kotsiuba.
