At the Odesa Museum of Genocide «Territory of Memory», supported by the Odesa Center for Professional Development of Educational Workers, a panel discussion titled «Babi Yar – Tragedy of the Second World War» was held.
This event, aimed at teachers of history and social studies in Odesa, focused on important aspects of teaching about the Holocaust and genocides, as well as preserving historical memory in our city.
The discussion was opened with a video message from the director of the National Historical and Cultural Preserve «Babi Yar», Roza Tapanova (Kyiv), who emphasized the significance of understanding the tragedy of Babi Yar for contemporary Ukraine and the world.
Pavlo Kozlenko, a candidate of philosophical sciences and head of the NGO «Odesa Center for Holocaust Studies», addressed the participants, highlighting the role of social studies teachers in shaping the historical consciousness of youth and preventing intolerance.
The discussion focused on practical aspects of dealing with sensitive historical topics among students. Participants learned about the successful experiences of their Odesa colleagues in implementing museum pedagogy and educational work in a historical context.
Best practices for working with children on preserving the memory of victims of World War II and the Holocaust were presented by educators from Odesa Lyceums No. 56, 62, and the Law Lyceum.
Participants actively exchanged experiences, shared challenges they face in their work, and received valuable advice on integrating Holocaust and genocide topics into the educational process during the state of martial law.
