Two young women were apprehended after igniting one civilian vehicle and planning to set another on fire. They face imprisonment for their actions.
The police reported this incident.
During curfew hours, which currently have no legal repercussions for violations, the suspects set fire to a «Kia» belonging to a local civilian parked outside her home. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and alerted the police.
With the analytical support from the Criminal Analysis Department of the Odesa Regional Police, detectives from the criminal investigation unit, along with operatives and investigators from Police Station No. 1, identified two Odessa residents, aged 17 and 18, as involved in the arson.
The underage girl, while looking for «easy» money through a messaging app, was recruited for monetary compensation to set fire to military and police vehicles. She was also allowed to burn any car that had a white cross previously affixed to it. Agreeing to this, she involved her 18-year-old friend.
The girls found a suitable vehicle that met the curator's requirements, and waiting for nightfall, marked it with a cross, drenched it in flammable liquid, and set it ablaze. They filmed the process on their phone to confirm their «work» was done.
Later, they intended to burn another civilian vehicle, a «Renault», parked near the owner’s residence.
The police apprehended the suspects just before they could commit the crime. They confiscated fuel, lighters, adhesive tape, and other items prepared for the arson, along with mobile phones containing correspondence with the client.
Investigators detained the girls in procedural order and based on the evidence collected, charged them with intentional damage to property and attempted arson of someone else's property by a group acting in concert. According to part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they face up to 10 years in prison.
The court imposed a preventive measure of round-the-clock house arrest. Investigative actions are ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa.
