The third installment of the franchise «Avatar: Fire and Ash» directed by Canadian filmmaker James Cameron has surpassed $1 billion at the box office in just 18 days of global release, according to Variety.
In total, the film has grossed $1.083 billion, with $306 million coming from North America and $777.1 million from the rest of the world.
The third part of the «Avatar» franchise reached the billion mark slightly slower than its predecessors.
For instance, «Avatar: The Way of Water» (2022) joined the billion-dollar club after just 14 days in theaters.
The original «Avatar» from 2009 took 17 days to hit this milestone.
It remains to be seen whether «Avatar: Fire and Ash» can maintain its momentum and surpass $2 billion globally.
Achieving this figure largely depends on the international audience, which was crucial in driving the first two films to such heights.
The first «Avatar» earned $2.1 billion outside of North America, while the sequel brought in $1.65 billion in international markets.
The third film, «Avatar: Fire and Ash», grossed $450 million during its opening week.
