Under the direction of prosecutors from the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Southern region, a citizen has been charged with attempting to commit a terrorist act (Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a resident of Odesa received an offer via Telegram in early February to prepare a terrorist act in Odesa using explosives. The organizer selected the location, timing, and targets for the explosion. Upon completion of the crime, the suspect was promised a payment of 3000 USD.
Following the organizer's instructions, he manufactured an explosive device and arrived at a parking lot opposite the administrative building where the specified vehicle was located. To document the act, the suspect placed a smartphone nearby to record video and left the scene. On the same day, the vehicle was detonated remotely. As a result, a passerby sustained injuries, and parked cars and the building facade were damaged.
Later that evening, law enforcement detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A motion is being prepared for the selection of a preventive measure.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the investigative department of the SBU in the Odesa region, with operational support from the SBU's regional staff and other law enforcement agencies.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a lawful manner.
