In the Odesa region, law enforcement has detained the deputy head of the medical commission at a local hospital for accepting a bribe of $6,000 to facilitate a discharge. Investigators have charged him, and he now faces imprisonment, disqualification from holding certain positions, and confiscation of property.
The Odesa Regional Police reported that the deputy head of the medical advisory commission at one of the hospitals in the Podilskyi district, in collusion with unidentified officials from the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern Region, offered assistance to a soldier seeking discharge due to health issues. His services were priced at $6,000, for which he promised to provide the soldier with medical documents that would justify his discharge from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and even arranged for his “treatment” at a military facility.
“During the operation to prevent the criminal activities of the suspect, police documented the receipt of illegal benefits in two installments and the transfer of promised medical documents, after which he was detained in accordance with the law.
Based on the evidence collected, investigators charged the offender under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for receiving illegal benefits by a public official for actions in the interests of a third party using their official position, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals. This offense is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years, disqualification from holding certain positions for up to three years, and property confiscation.
The court has set a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail amounting to 908,400 hryvnias. The identities of those involved in the scheme are being established,” the statement said.
