During a gathering, a drunk tenant fatally stabbed his landlord and fled to the capital. For this crime, the perpetrator will spend nine years behind bars.

The incident occurred in March last year at the apartment of a 63-year-old Odesa resident on Breus Street. The man stopped answering calls from friends, prompting them to seek police assistance. Upon investigating, officers discovered the resident dead in his home.

In the course of initial investigative actions, police established that a 53-year-old tenant from another region was involved in the death of the Odesa resident, who had rented a room from him for several weeks.

During the preliminary investigation, detectives found that a day before the body was discovered, a conflict arose between the men during a drunken gathering due to differing views on life, during which the tenant inflicted stab wounds to the landlord's chest and back. After committing the crime, the assailant left the victim and fled to Kyiv, where he was soon apprehended by police.

Criminalists from the investigative department of the Odesa regional police used a mobile DNA laboratory to analyze biological traces collected during initial investigative actions and biological samples from the victim and the arrested individual. The results confirmed the latter's involvement in the crime. According to the forensic medical examination, the cause of death of the Odesa resident was penetrating stab wounds to the chest, causing lung damage and bleeding into the pleural cavities.

As reported by Mykola Kulchytsky, head of police station No. 1 of the Odesa district police, at the request of the police, the perpetrator was placed in custody. After gathering sufficient evidence, detectives charged him with intentional murder and forwarded the indictment to court under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Reviewing the case materials and the evidence provided by law enforcement, the court found the accused guilty of intentionally murdering the landlord and sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment. The defendant admitted his guilt and sincerely repented of his actions.
