A robbery occurred in a central area of the city, where the perpetrator approached the victim under the pretense of conversation, then suddenly snatched his gold jewelry. The suspect, a repeat offender, has spent over 11 years in prison and now faces up to 10 years of incarceration.

The 33-year-old man reported to the police that he had been robbed in the city center. Law enforcement quickly responded to the alarm and apprehended the criminal, who attempted to hide in the entrance of a nearby residential building.

According to Irina Yablonska, deputy head of the investigative department of Police Station No. 1 of the Odessa District Police Department No. 2, the suspect noticed a gold chain with a cross on the neck of a stranger, approached him to initiate a conversation, and then unexpectedly ripped the jewelry off and fled.

The total value of the stolen property amounted to 35,000 hryvnias, but he was unable to make use of it. He refused to explain his actions.

The arrested individual has a history of convictions for theft, robbery, and attempted murder, having served over 11 years in prison.

“We have already informed him of the suspicion of committing an open robbery, which was repeated under martial law. Under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years. The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and we are considering the option of selecting a preventive measure of detention,” added Police Captain Irina Yablonska.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office.
