Law enforcement officials have apprehended individuals in the Berezivskyi district for engaging in illegal logging activities, with charges filed against them. The father will also face charges for involving his son in this wrongdoing.

In January, during a patrol, police discovered a 56-year-old man and his 17-year-old son cutting trees in a protective forest belt owned by the Petrovirivska community.

It was established that the man had cut down a total of 51 young trees, including acacias and maples. His underage son was tasked with monitoring the surroundings and assisting in loading the cut wood into their vehicle.

From the scene, police seized a "VAZ" car with a trailer, the cut trees, and a chainsaw. A forensic economic examination revealed that the damage caused to the community was 68,652 hryvnias.

With sufficient evidence gathered, charges were filed for illegal logging that caused significant harm, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy. This crime falls under part 2 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, punishable by up to five years of imprisonment. Furthermore, the father faces additional charges under part 2 of Article 304 of the Criminal Code for involving a minor in criminal activity, which can result in up to 10 years in prison.

The indictment has been sent to court, where it will be prosecuted by the Berezivskyi District Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities urge citizens to respect nature and engage in legal wood harvesting practices.
