The case against the offender has been submitted to court. He faces a lengthy prison sentence along with asset confiscation.

Recall that the incident occurred in December of last year. During the pre-trial investigation led by the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa, police established the following facts. The offender snatched a mobile phone from a 36-year-old soldier's hands at Kulikove Field and fled. Trying to retrieve the device, the victim chased after the stranger and caught up with him in the park on Italian Boulevard. However, the offender stabbed the man several times and also took his backpack containing money, passport, and military ID. The total damage amounted to nearly 13 thousand hryvnias.

Medical personnel, called by citizens, hospitalized the victim with a penetrating abdominal wound and stab wounds to the neck and arm. According to the forensic medical examination, some of the injuries are classified as severe.

The police quickly identified and apprehended the offender, who turned out to be a visitor with four prior convictions for theft and robbery. During investigative measures, law enforcement recovered part of the stolen property as well as the weapon used in the crime.

“We have gathered sufficient evidence and charged the defendant with assault with the intent to seize someone else's property, involving violence dangerous to the life or health of the assaulted person, resulting in serious bodily harm, committed during martial law, as well as illegally seizing a passport and other important personal documents. These crimes are classified under Part 4 of Article 187 and Part 3 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty for these offenses is up to 15 years of imprisonment with asset confiscation. At our request, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for the offender. The indictment against him has already been submitted to court,” said Marina Yermolenko, the investigator from Police Department No. 2 of Odessa District Police Department No. 1.
