On Thursday, November 20, 2025, a tragic event unfolded at Dniester Lagoon near the village of Mykolaivka in the Odesa region: three fishermen went missing. The police are currently investigating the incident.
According to preliminary reports, the Rescue Service received a notification about a capsized boat and the bodies of two deceased individuals found in the reeds.
Rescuers, in collaboration with law enforcement, recovered the bodies of two men from the water. Search efforts for the third fisherman are ongoing, including the use of drones.
Today, November 21, the local police department commented on the incident.
Law enforcement officials stated that the dispatcher from the boat station reported the fishermen's disappearance. It has been revealed that three elderly men came to the lagoon to fish and rented a house for a few days. On the morning of their departure, while boating to the dock, the fishermen lost contact with the dispatcher, and later, workers from the station discovered their boat and the bodies of two fishermen nearby.
Search efforts for the third man are ongoing.
The police have also registered information about the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, marked as an 'accident'.
The bodies of the men will be sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
