Olympic fencing champion Alina Komashchuk met with young athletes from KDYUSSH No. 13 as part of the NOC of Ukraine's #OlympicLab project, which promotes Olympic values. This was reported by the press service of the NOC of Ukraine in Odesa region.
Meetings with prominent Odesa fencers, such as Olena Kravetska and Andriy Yahodka, have become a tradition at KDYUSSH No. 13. This time, Alina visited Odesa briefly before important competitions starting with the Ukrainian Cup in Kyiv. The young fencers are also preparing for a cadet European cycle tournament in Istanbul on October 11-12. The meeting took place in the sports hall located at Novoselskoho St., 75, Odesa.
At the beginning of the event, Alina, who achieved bronze and silver medals at the world and European championships this year, spoke about key moments in her career and answered numerous questions from the young athletes. Her personal coach, Oleksandr Vasyutin, a distinguished coach of Ukraine, also participated in the event.
Advice from the Champion
Recovery, proper nutrition, and rehabilitation are crucial for success. I wasn't always aware of this, but now I understand that my lack of experience cost me the chance to achieve better results.
You need to act like professionals, taking all aspects of your preparation into account.
I faced defeats, but I believed that I must trust my abilities. At the world championship, I fought against Sara Balzer, whom I had never beaten before. I told myself: "I won't give up this medal!" and focused solely on fencing.
Participants received not only the champion's advice but also motivation for upcoming competitions, inspired by her achievements — the medals from the world and European championships.
At the end of the event, young athletes received gifts from the NOC of Ukraine, and Alina happily signed autographs on T-shirts, gloves, and of course, weapons.
