The Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, held an online meeting with Mainz's Mayor, Nino Haaze, to explore new partnership opportunities.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the details of signing a cooperation agreement between the cities.
This initiative has already received support from the city councils of both Odessa and Mainz.
The dialogue also covered potential areas for collaboration in cultural and social sectors, bioenergy, and IT.
The Mayor of Odessa emphasized the historical contribution of Germans to the city’s development in the early 19th century and expressed hope for a revival of this trend.
«Despite the challenges, we are moving forward through unity and collaboration», — noted Gennadiy Trukhanov.
Since 2022, Mainz has been actively welcoming Ukrainian refugees, providing for their economic, social, and cultural needs.
Gennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude to the German people for their incredible support and informed his colleague about the recent attacks Odessa has faced.
«The most terrifying aspect of this war is its aim to destroy the civilian population, culture, and authenticity of Ukraine. We are committed to long-term cooperation», — stated the Mayor of Mainz.
Nino Haaze remarked that Mainz is one of the most dynamic cities in Germany, and he sees similar potential in Odessa. He is confident that the partnership agreement will benefit both cities.
