In Ukraine, around 240 fires are reported daily, resulting in approximately four deaths and five injuries.

This was shared by the head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department, Roman Tsiren, during a briefing at the "Media Center Ukraine".

According to Tsiren, these figures indicate "alarming statistics" on an annual basis.

"On average, about two thousand citizens die each year due to fires, and five thousand may be injured," emphasized the DSNS representative.

The DSNS also urged Ukrainians to refrain from setting bonfires in nature during the Easter celebrations.

"Our country's territory has suffered greatly from explosive objects. Many have been found even in recently de-occupied areas.

Especially if forests and parks are used, I do not recommend lighting fires, because this year there has been a significant rise in ecosystem fires. Currently, there is a 68% increase in such incidents," explained Roman Tsiren.

Casualties from emergencies also include deaths and injuries from traffic accidents, Tsiren noted.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2024, there were nearly 26,000 accidents with casualties. More than 3,200 people died and over 32,000 were injured. This is a 5-9% increase compared to 2023.

First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, stated that the most common cause of traffic accidents with casualties is exceeding the speed limit. This accounts for nearly 39.4% of cases.

Other frequent causes of accidents include violations of maneuvering rules, crossing intersections and pedestrian crossings, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

"If we add the traffic accidents that result in six thousand deaths, the losses are enormous," concluded the head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department.

It is worth noting that only 55 Ukrainians died from domestic fires in the first six days of 2025. Fires occurred due to short circuits, non-compliance with heating appliance usage rules, and careless handling of fire, including smoking in bed while intoxicated.
