During an inspection of the Lebedivka forest area, part of the «Tuzlivski Lymany» National Park, a ranger discovered 8 illegal wire snares. The protection service reminds that such actions have significant ecological and legal consequences.
This was reported by the administration of the «Tuzlivski Lymany» national park.
Snares and loops are primitive tools used for catching birds and animals, often exploited by poachers. They are set up in areas frequented by wildlife such as boars, otters, and foxes.
The negative impacts of using these traps include:
- injury and death of wild animals;
- destruction of rare species;
- disruption of ecosystems;
- difficulty in detection due to their hidden nature.
The use of snares is a serious violation of nature conservation laws.
According to Ukrainian legislation, any activities harmful to natural complexes are prohibited in protected areas.
Illegal hunting, under Article 248 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, is punishable by fines, community service, or imprisonment, along with the confiscation of hunting tools.
Illegal hunting includes:
- hunting without proper permits;
- hunting prohibited species;
- hunting in prohibited areas;
- hunting at forbidden times;
- using banned tools.
Responsibility arises from any form of illegal hunting.
The Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses also imposes fines for violations of wildlife resource use regulations.
Moreover, guards remind that forest areas in the Odessa region are prohibited for visitation during martial law in Ukraine.
