On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition highlighting the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery in Odessa.
This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.
The joint Ukrainian-Peruvian exhibition titled «Planet on the Grill: Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon» combines photographs from two vastly different ecosystems: the hot Amazonian forests and the icy Antarctica.
The exhibition features 36 photographs displayed in pairs, as the contrasting Amazon and Antarctica share many commonalities: human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and incredible beauty.
The Amazon photos were taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, mostly during 2024.
The Antarctic photographs were captured by Ukrainian researchers who worked on the icy continent from 2019 to 2024.
Scientists have noted that both ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. Record droughts in the humid Amazon forests and melting glaciers in Antarctica are «symptoms» of the same disease—climate change.
The photographs will reveal what is happening to these ecosystems and how local plants and animals respond.
The exhibition opens on April 24 at 6:00 PM at the «Dialogues» gallery on Soborna, 2.
The director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, Yevhen Dykh, will participate in the opening.
The gallery is located in the basement, providing a safe environment.
The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
