In the Odesa region, near the village of Orlivka, an archaeological expedition from K.D. Ushynsky University has commenced. The research is taking place at the necropolis «Kam’yana hora», located on the banks of the Lower Danube.
According to the university rector Andrii Krasnozhon, this area has been a vital crossing between the Great Eurasian Steppe and the Balkans for five thousand years. It has seen the passage of the Cimmerians, Scythians, Sarmatians, Romans, Goths, Huns, and Bulgarians, as well as the armies of Persian King Darius and Macedonian commander Zopyrion.
“In archaeological terms, this site can be compared to a tectonic fault between two civilizational plates of the East and West. It is a place of unprecedented concentration of extraordinary treasures and archaeological layers from all times and cultures…”, – stated the rector.
Professor Ihor Bruyako, a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute, has been leading the archaeological excavations for over 20 years.
This season marks the first time during the war that history students and volunteers from other faculties have rejoined the research.
“I wish you sensational discoveries! Touch the mysteries and breathe freedom”, – emphasized Krasnozhon.
