Recently, ecologists detected elevated levels of hazardous substances, particularly ammonium, in areas with significant algae blooms in the Black Sea.
This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District.
Experts explain that the decomposition of algae along the coastal zone leads to exceeding permissible pollution levels. To prevent further deterioration, the Inspection sent a request to the Odessa City Council demanding the cleaning of the coastline from accumulated algae. They also contacted the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Ecology of the Sea and the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service in the Odessa region, asking them to conduct additional research on seawater. The inspection will include microbiological and sanitary-chemical parameters, as well as hydrobiological and bacteriological analyses in areas of significant algae accumulation.
