Ophthalmologists have approached the Barrier-Free Council in Odesa with a proposal to support the Filatov Eye Institute. They suggest creating pedestrian areas with tactile paving, establishing accessible navigation, and adding Braille information, which is crucial for visually impaired individuals.
Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov emphasized that this matter will be presented to the deputies, noting that the Filatov Institute is not just a medical facility but also a research center with over a century of history and a significant contribution to ophthalmology.
Each day, approximately 500 patients visit the institute, including civilians, children, individuals with disabilities, and military personnel receiving specialized care.
Previously, repairs to sidewalks and the installation of traffic lights were carried out in the area.
The next logical step should be to create a fully Barrier-Freeenvironment that meets the needs of its patients, said the mayor's advisor on accessibility, Oleksiy Morozov.
