From October 24 to November 6, gas supply to the Unknown Sailor Memorial, also known as the «Eternal Flame», in Odesa will be temporarily interrupted. The reason is planned maintenance work on this significant site.

The city council has announced that informational signs indicating the schedule of works have already been placed near the memorial. The maintenance will take nearly two weeks — until November 6.

About the memorial «Unknown Sailor Monument»

This memorial is located in the Taras Shevchenko Central Park of Culture and Recreation, on the Alley of Glory. It was inaugurated on May 9, 1960, to honor Soviet sailors who perished during the defense of Odesa in World War II.

The 21-meter-high obelisk is made of red granite, designed by sculptor M. I. Naruzetsky and architects P. V. Tomilin and G. V. Topuz. At the base of the obelisk burns the Eternal Flame — a symbol of memory. The Alley of Glory also features the graves of heroes, where annual commemorative events take place.
