On August 27, the Central Library named after Ivan Franko held a solemn award ceremony for the winners of the IV municipal competition in memory of the great Ukrainian artist.
This event was dedicated to the birthday of the prominent Ukrainian writer and publicist Ivan Franko.
In 2024, the competition, featuring authors from various regions of Ukraine, is being held for the fourth time.
The winners of the competition are:
in the category of “Journalism”:
- Viacheslav Kushnir (Odesa, “Through the Pages of Newspapers and Facebook”);
- Eduard Amchislavsky (New York, “Actors, Cinema, Odesa…”);
in the category of “Prose”:
- Volodymyr Shevchenko-Vasylenko (Kremenchuk, “The Boat Floats with Grief”);
- Iryna Feofanova (Irpin, “Stranger, Native”);
in the category of “Poetry”:
- Oksana Lozova (Lviv, “Time Does Not Pass”) along with her son Vasyl Lozovyi, who is currently defending Ukraine, authored the collection “We Are-Yes!”;
- Yuriy Ostrovershenko (Vradievka, poetry collection “Whip”);
in the category of “Promoting Ivan Franko’s Work”:
- Denys Rudi (Odesa, second prize, script for the literary-musical concert “Withered Leaves”),
- Olesia Franko (Kalush, first prize, local history tour “Franko City”).
A special award was given to Vasyl Dobriansky, a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine and an author of historical novels.
The director of the Central Library System for Adults, Natalia Klykova, received an honorary certificate from the Odesa District Council.
At the end of the event, students and teachers from the Odesa Art School No. 1 and literary award laureate Svitlana Lukina performed.
On Ivan Franko’s birthday, library staff and fans of the writer’s work laid flowers at his monument.

This literary competition was established in 2021 in honor of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence Day and the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian writer.
