A delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is currently in Odesa, led by Mr. Matthias Schmale, the humanitarian coordinator for the UN system in Ukraine.
On October 15, 2024, the delegation visited the city’s Social and Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons, currently housing around 100 individuals affected by armed conflict.
The UN representatives learned about the living conditions and spoke with the displaced persons and the Center's staff.
The Center is equipped with comfortable living quarters, a psychologist's office, children's rooms for learning and play, laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining area, and an assembly hall.
Regular workshops and activities for children are conducted at the Center, and adults can acquire new skills and find employment.
According to the Center's staff, charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive support to the residents.
«We are deeply concerned about the assistance for internally displaced persons. I see that this Center has created a comfortable environment for those who had to leave their homes. It is one of the best in Ukraine,» said Mr. Matthias Schmale.
Advisor to the Odesa Mayor on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika Etnarovich, noted that the possibility of establishing another such Center in Odesa is currently being explored.
