Odessa has received humanitarian aid in the form of two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter microbuses from its twin city, Regensburg.
These vehicles will be utilized by local social service centers for the «Social Taxi» initiative.
The microbuses are already adapted for people with disabilities but require additional equipment for transporting wheelchair users.
The «Social Taxi» program is implemented by the Odessa city authorities in collaboration with the NGO «Barrier-Free», which provides specialized transportation for individuals with disabilities to access essential services.
Currently, there are 6 specialized vehicles operating in Odessa. The service is in high demand, with over 1200 requests processed. The microbuses provided by Regensburg will help increase the number of rides and expand the service's capabilities.
Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov expressed gratitude to Regensburg, noting that this is not just about transportation but about providing people with disabilities a comfortable way to access necessary services and feel mobile.
Individuals with disabilities can order a social taxi through the MISTO app or by calling the short number 15-01.
