In a village in the Odessa region, a 50-year-old woman accidentally shot her 5-year-old granddaughter while attempting to hide an air rifle. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
Yesterday, April 20, medical staff informed the police about the hospitalization of the girl with injuries to her lower jaw and neck at the Odessa Regional Children's Hospital. While investigating the incident, law enforcement officials preliminarily determined that the woman, residing in a settlement in the Izmail district, decided to hide her children's father's air rifle and accidentally fired it, hitting her granddaughter who was nearby.
The details of the child's injury have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to careless serious or moderate bodily harm. The maximum penalty for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.
"As part of the proceedings, a number of forensic examinations have been appointed, and all circumstances of the event are being established. The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office" - the statement reads.
