This morning, during a joint patrol near the village of Kalaghliya, officers from the Odessa District Police Department's Water Police sector, together with border guards, discovered a 24-year-old resident of the Ovidiopol community illegally fishing with prohibited gear. The man had no permits for fishing.

The investigative team seized from the offender a fishing suit, two nettings totaling 200 meters in length, and 287 fish weighing a total of 180 kilograms, including herring, carp, bream, crucian, perch, taran, flatfish, and asp. All confiscated items were transferred to a specialized enterprise for storage.

According to preliminary estimates, the fisherman caused damages to the state amounting to over 650 thousand hryvnias.

Based on this incident, investigators have entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding illegal fishing activities causing significant harm. A forensic ecological examination has been appointed to determine the exact amount of damage caused to the state. After conducting necessary investigative actions and obtaining the expert conclusion, the issue of notifying the suspect will be decided. He faces up to three years of restriction of liberty.

The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office.
