A 47-year-old man from Odessa, who has a previous criminal history, is now facing charges under two articles of the Ukrainian Penal Code. He is currently in custody.

This information was provided by the police.

In July of last year, a resident of Odessa reported to the police about a sexual assault on her 15-year-old daughter by an unknown man.

According to the police, the suspect approached the girl while intoxicated on the street and, upon learning that she was heading to the city center, offered to take her on a shortcut. He lured her to a deserted area and forced her into an abandoned building, where he committed sexual acts against her, which the girl later reported to her mother.

Within a few hours, detectives from the Odessa District Police Department No. 1 identified the perpetrator as a 47-year-old man previously convicted for theft, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons.

The law enforcement officers located the man, and during an urgent search of his residence, they seized a prohibited psychoactive substance, 4-MMC (4-methylmethcathinone), which he had acquired from an unidentified individual for personal use.

The investigators detained the offender under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The court chose to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention.

«During the pre-trial investigation, conducted under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa, police gathered sufficient evidence, including forensic expert conclusions, based on which charges were brought against the suspect under part 3 of Article 153 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for sexual assault against a minor without her voluntary consent, as well as under part 1 of Article 309 of the same code – for illegal possession of psychoactive substances without intent to sell», - reported investigator Valeria Buliga.

The investigation is complete, and the indictment has been sent to court. The offender faces up to seven years in prison.
