Dynamo defender Andriy Yarmolenko commented on the decision of Ukraine's head coach Serhiy Rebrov not to call him up for the Nations League matches this autumn.
Yarmolenko shared his thoughts during a podcast hosted by Denys Boyko.
"Honestly, it was unpleasant, but these things happen in football. I understood that if I’m not called up, it probably means I’m not worthy to be in the national team, and currently, there are players who can deliver better results.
So, of course, after being called up continuously for 15 years, when you’re not injured, and it happens for the first time, anyone would feel a bit upset.
But what can you do? This is football and life. It’s good; it means I need to work and perhaps next time, I’ll be called up again." - said Yarmolenko.
In March, Yarmolenko returned to the national team and came on as a substitute in the second Nations League playoff match against Belgium (0:3).
This season, the 35-year-old player scored 10 goals and provided an assist in 30 matches for Dynamo. Recently, he marked his 113th goal in the UPL, matching Serhiy Rebrov's record.
Recently, the player discussed extending his contract with the Kyiv club.
