Olympic champion Alina Komashchuk from Odesa has made a remarkable achievement by earning her first personal medal at the European Fencing Championship held in Genoa.

This was announced by the Ukrainian Fencing Federation.

On June 15, Alina Komashchuk won a silver medal at the European Fencing Championship in Italy.

In the final of the women's sabre event, she lost to the current European champion from France, Sara Nucchi, with a score of 6:15.

On her way to the final, the Ukrainian displayed impressive form: she first convincingly defeated the Italian Mariella Viale, a medalist from junior world and European championships, and in the semifinals she overcame the strong Polish fencer Sylwia Matuszczak.

This silver medal is historic for Komashchuk, as she has previously won medals in European Championships as part of the team but had never achieved this in an individual competition.
