Odesa athlete Alina Komashchuk claimed a bronze medal at the fencing world championship taking place in Tbilisi (Georgia).
The 32-year-old fencer from the Odesa Regional Higher Sports Mastery School «Olympiets» began her journey to medals from the round of 32, defeating German fencer Elisabeth Hette (15:7). In the round of 16, she was defeated by Chinese fencer Fu Yin (15:6), but in the round of 8, she overcame the reigning world champion Misaki Emura from Japan (15:12). In the quarter-finals, Alina won against French fencer Sara Balcer (15:7), but in the semi-finals, she lost to Polish representative Zuzanna Czeslar (12:15).
This medal marks Alina's first individual award at world championships.
Her coach was Oleksandr Vasyutin.
