In Odesa, primary school students will be assured of receiving meals until the end of the academic year.
The Odesa City Council voted to allocate an additional 20 million hryvnias from the city budget.
Meals for primary school students are funded through state subsidies and local budgets – 70% and 30%, respectively.
Currently, the subsidy funds have run out, and no additional allocations are foreseen for the time being.
“I believe it is wrong to halt meals during the school year. I am pleased that most of you share this view. The decision made will ensure meals for this academic year regardless of the availability of state subsidies,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
