Sad news from Odesa. Kostyantyn Oborin, a veteran of the Afghan war and a participant in the modern fight for Ukraine's independence, has died while on a military mission. He was the director of the «Odesa» aviation club, a volunteer, a mentor, and a person of great spirit.

This was announced by the mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, via Telegram.

Kostyantyn endured the horrors of Afghanistan but emerged with a kind heart, dedicating himself to the service and support of others. He became a symbol of rehabilitation and hope for veterans, inspiring them through parachuting and genuine human connection. His philosophy that — «the sky heals» – lifted many spirits.

In 2014, risking his own life, Kostyantyn rescued 29 Ukrainian soldiers from captivity. In 2022, he honored the last wish of his student, Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Buvalkin, by scattering his ashes over their beloved city. That same year, he was awarded the Grigory Marazli III class order.

Kostyantyn was not just a soldier; he was a friend, a mentor, a volunteer, and a role model. Our paths crossed frequently since the 90s, and we often discussed veteran policies, military support, rehabilitation, and the honorable recognition of those defending Ukraine. His experience and sincerity were invaluable.

In recent times, we had seen little of each other, as he continued to undertake combat missions at the age of 63. He died faithful to his oath, his comrades, and his country.

His passing is a painful loss for all of Odesa, for those who found light, support, and an example in him.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew Kostyantyn. His name will remain in our memory, in the sky, and in our hearts.
