The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has put forward the idea of establishing a new "transport corridor" that would connect the port of Alexandroupolis with Odessa, traversing through Romania and Bulgaria.
According to "Interfax-Ukraine", Mitsotakis made this statement during the 4th "Ukraine-Southeast Europe" summit held on June 11 in Odessa.
He proposed that this corridor would pass through Bulgaria's Varna and Romania's Constanta, with an overall route length of approximately 700 km.
"I would like Odessa to be at one end of an ambitious, comprehensive project aimed at enhancing connectivity, starting from Alexandroupolis port, going through Varna, Constanta, and finally reaching Odessa. This is a project that could be proposed for EU funding" – stated the Greek Prime Minister.
He suggested that this could be a multifaceted project encompassing railway tracks, power lines, and pipelines, with transportation through this route potentially being faster than sea freight.
According to him, the project would provide "a clear and tangible vision of how Ukraine's integration into the EU can genuinely transform the lives of Ukrainians".
