Recently, social media and news outlets circulated claims regarding a potential shortening of school holidays in 2025.

The press office of the Ministry of Education has dismissed these rumors, stating that the duration of the academic year is determined by each school individually.

The ministry confirmed that according to the Cabinet's decree, the school year will run from September 2, 2024, to June 30, 2025. However, these dates are only indicative and not mandatory for all educational institutions.

“These dates, along with the structure of the academic year and holiday periods, are established not by the government but by the schools themselves. This is not a new development; such flexibility has been enshrined in legislation for many years, even before the full-scale war,” the ministry noted.

In fact, schools are empowered to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.

During this process, the teaching council takes into account:

  • the overall academic load;
  • the security situation in the region;
  • the individual needs of students;
  • the readiness of teachers.
